Second ‘Under the Dome’ Promo Dials Up Terror
Currently filming in Wilmington, North Carolina, a second promo video for the upcoming CBS adaptation of the Stephen King novel Under the Dome, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, was revealed last night at WonderCon 2013, and while it still features no actual footage from the series, you can hear a hint of the terror and confusion to come within snippets of 911 emergency calls presumably made just minutes after the titular dome first appears.

The 13-episode serialized drama based on Stephen King’s best-selling 2009 novel, about a small town that is unexpectedly sealed off from rest of the world by a giant transparent dome, will be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment.
Production on the series began in February in Wilmington, NC, at EUE/Screen Gems Studios, where much of Iron Man 3 was also filmed in 2012.
Rachelle Lefevre (Twilight, The Caller) will play Julia, described as “an investigative reporter who just moved from Chicago to Chester’s Mill with her husband, a doctor at the town’s medical center. She’s the editor of the town’s local paper and is intrigued after learning of multiple deliveries of propane gas to a nearby warehouse. She’s baffled by the appearance of the strange dome but more concerned with the whereabouts of her mysteriously missing husband.”
Niels Arden Oplev, the Swedish director of the original The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, will direct the pilot episode, while Brian K. Vaughan (Lost) will serve as showrunner with both King and Spielberg along as executive producers.
Mike Vogel (Bates Motel, Texas Chainsaw Massacre) has also joined the cast as the male lead, Barbie, “an Army veteran who is in Chester’s Mill on a mysterious mission during which he might have killed a man. He’s not a bad guy but, at the same time, not someone to be messed with. He’s as baffled by the dome as everyone and befriended by an investigative journalist named Julia, though his shadowy past will complicate his relationship with the married woman.”
Dean Norris of AMC’s Breaking Bad has also joined the cast as Big Jim, “the successful owner of Chester’s Mill’s used car dealership and also a town councilman, an office he takes very seriously.”
Colin Ford (We Bought a Zoo) was the first cast member announced. He will play Joe, “a teenager living in Chester’s Mill, a very smart kid who’s understandably freaked out when he discovers that the mysterious barrier covers the whole town — and both his parents are outside of it.”
Charlotte, NC native Britt Robertson will play “Angie, an attractive young waitress and aspiring nurse who’s always dreamed of escaping the town of Chester’s Mill”.
Natalie Martinez (Death Race) has been cast as Linda, ”a young, ambitious deputy who is fiercely loyal to Sheriff Duke Perkins, the man who runs a tight ship in the town of Chester’s Mill”.
In addition, Alex Koch has been cast as Junior Rennie, the son of a local politician and car dealer, described as “a smart, secretly deeply disturbed college freshman who’s desperately in love with local waitress Angie”.
Jolene Purdy (Glee) will play Dodee, “a brilliant, eccentric engineer at the local radio station who will draw on her unique skills in an effort to make contact with the world outside the dome”.
Nicholas Strong will play Phil, “a popular radio DJ and indie rock fanatic, a charismatic figure with a dark secret”.
Aisha Hinds (True Blood) will play Carolyn Hill, an L.A. entertainment attorney trapped in Chester’s Mill while driving through town with her partner and their daughter on the way to deliver their teen to a camp for troubled youth.
Under the Dome premieres on CBS on Monday, June 24 at 10pm.
