‘Halloween’ is Home at The Myers House NC

The ultimate Halloween party is happening this weekend in Hillsborough, North Carolina at the world’s only life-size replica of the home of the holiday’s most infamous cinematic icon.

Built to almost identical specs of the actual house in South Pasadena, CA where masked killer Michael Myers lived in director John Carpenter’s 1978 masterpiece Halloween, The Myers House NC is more than a tribute to the classic horror film, but a love letter to the entire franchise it started (including seven sequels, a remake, and a sequel to the remake) and a celebration of the spookiest day of the year itself.

And it’s also where Kenny Caperton and his girlfriend Emily Currier live.

“I worry sometimes that a crazy fan is going to show up in the middle of the night,” says Caperton, “but everyone that has come out to see the house has been really cool and nice.”

OBXentertainment.com visited The Myers House NC last year, and found Kenny and Emily to be a quiet, friendly, completely normal couple who just happen to really love Halloween.

Caperton has been fascinated with all things Halloween since he was little and grew up watching the 1980’s slasher flicks on late night cable television, but the blank pale face of Michael Myers stuck with him the most, as the original 1978 Halloween remains his favorite movie of all time.

In 2008, at age 26, Kenny visited the original Myers House in South Pasadena, California, while in the process of house-hunting with Emily. A crazy idea was hatched, and what could have been just another cookie cutter starter home for a young couple became a one-of-a-kind tribute to a classic horror movie.

Finishing the project proved almost as challenging as surviving a night with Michael Myers, as Kenny explained that there no existing blueprints around for the original house, which was built in 1888. After drawing the initial floor plans by hand and hiring an architect to create the final building plans, Kenny and Emily found the perfect five acres of land in rural Hillsborough, but then had to figure out how to pay for it.

After a year of hard work, dedication, and determination, Caperton’s dream house of nightmares was completed in March 2009.

“You think it’s hard for someone in their twenties to get a loan?” Kenny told OBXentertainment.com. “Try going to the bank and telling them you want to build a life-size replica of a fictional serial killer’s house. Most people don’t get it.”

This Saturday, Oct. 27, The Myers House NC will host its 4th Annual Halloween Bash, where dozens of people who definitely get it will watch Halloween movies projected onto Caperton’s big screen outside, while taking turns touring his museum of rare Halloween memorabilia, collectibles, and posters that decorate every room inside the house.

There’s also photo after photo of Kenny alongside his idols from the film and its sequels. He says he has met almost every living cast member of the 1978 original, as well as many of the actors and actresses who faced Michael Myers in the later movies.

When Kenny visited the set of director Rob Zombie’s Halloween remake in 2007, he was even given a walk-on role as a trick-or-treater.

He is also a writer and filmmaker in his own right, having directed a promo for Sheri Moon Zombie’s (Halloween 2007) clothing line Total Skull, which you can watch in the player below.

Caperton also wrote the short film Judith, a prequel to his favorite movie, naturally filmed at The Myers House NC, which you can also view in its entirety in the player below.
