Dirty Dancing remake was first announced in 2011 with Kenny Ortega (High School Musical), who choreographed the original film, attached to direct from a script by Glee co-creator Brad Falchuk. However, on June 8 Lionsgate Films announced that they were postponing the reboot, citing casting reasons.

The remake was originally scheduled to be released in theaters in July of 2013.

Located in Rutherford County, Lake Lure was also previously used in the filming of The Last of the Mohicans (1992), My Fellow Americans (1996), A Breed Apart (1984), and Firestarter (1984).
